The building and surroundings were superb. The staff and facilities were excellent and it was a very relaxing few days.

Our room looked out directly onto the flat roof over the kitchen and, since we like fresh air and to have our window open, the smell of cooking was very intrusive. As the rate for the room was at the top of the scale for the hotel we felt that this should not have been the case.

    • Couple

Fantastic location, great staff, food was excellent, beer was well kept, and overall a great realxing place to stop.

    • Couple

We have a lovely meal in the restaurant and our room was huge although I was expecting to be in the main building.

    • Older travelers
      8.8

Room was small - but 'perfectly formed' and very acceptable. The main Restaurant is simply superb with quite excellent food and staff and a very efficiebnt and friendly Maitre d'.

    • Older travelers

Old Worlde building & atmosphere. Lovely garden/patio area to enjoy a drink and the sunshine.

Lack of toiletries - no shower gel or body lotion. Al a Carte menu only had a choice of four dishes on the starter and main course therefore not enough choice.

    • Older travelers
      9.6

Relaxed friendly place with superb service and food of the highest quality. The staff were attentive and very friendly at all times.

    • Older travelers
      10.0

Superb level of professionalism of every member of staff encountered, the Hotel's central location in the small town, its 'oldness', the comparative security of its Reception desk (room keys not easily visible/accessible to visitors and guests), the high quality of the 'full English Breakfast'.

As it is possible, under the current system, for any guest to have copies made of room keys, perhaps it's time to consider a programmable 'credit card' keyless door entry system. A simpler (less effective, but short-term improvement) alternative to Security would be for guests to be required to positively identify themselves when requesting room keys from Reception.

    • Older travelers
      6.6

The beautiful gardens and external areas, and the exceptional breakfast, with rather good coffee

We were swamped by a large party in for dinner on Saturday night, who got all the attention ofthe staff, leaving us feel somewhat neglected, on that occasion

    • Couple
      8.2

The restaurant was fabulous. The building itself was really nice and the location was great.

Our room was nothing special, they could really refurbish it and make it more 'up to date'. Especially the bathrooms needed work.

    • Older travelers
      7.4

The location is excellent with the town in immediate reach so no need for driving or taxis if drinking.

Felt the restaurant and brasserie menus were somewhat over engineered for such a rural location. Spoilt the monastic charm of the place.

    • Family with children
      9.2

the country charm of the hotel right in the town center of Malmesbury. Fantastic location for walks in the English countryside.

    • Couple
      5.8

The traditional log fires and elegant dining room were most appreciated . The cooked breakfasts were done to perfection.

The receptionist could have been much more welcoming and informative.

    • Older travelers
      8.2

The relaxed ambience. The decor. Good breakfast. Location.

Room was not ready on arrival. Food in the Brasserie was quite salty.

    • Older travelers
      8.2

      it central location

the bed room could have done with a coat of paint

    • Older travelers
      6.2

The building and the location are idyllic, and the public rooms are characterful and mantained to a high standard.

It does not represent good value for money: our "superior" bedroom was small and so was the bed. There was a small sitting room that was too poky to be of any use. We didn't eat at the hotel apart from breakfast, so I don't whether the kitchen raises its game later in the day, but the breakfast choice was limited and merely satisfactory.
